The German Historical Institute in Rome, the oldest of the Federal Republic’s historical institutes abroad serves research into German-Italian relations in a European context, from the early Middle Ages to the recent past.
The institute has a music history department, whose area of work covers the relationship between German and Italian music, its historical pre-requisites and its effects on Europe.
